For nine months all pregnant women can think about is the birthing process. This process is both terrifying and exciting. Most women don’t know what to expect, they know it is going to be painful, but they are not quite sure how much. Since pain is different for everyone, it is hard to assess how much pain any one women will have. However this pain can be managed, not through drugs but through help.
The OBGYN typically discusses the birthing plan in the first few visits. Some women want natural childbirth, while others want to have drugs or other new methods such as underwater births. The choices are endless and making this decision is on which should not be taken lightly and should be thought through before deciding on a final plan.
You know there are going to be painful things happening during childbirth, just the thought of squeezing a baby the size of a watermelon through an opening the size of a lemon is a scary to say the least. You know there will be pain and it will take hours. You know it will take weeks to recover from either natural childbirth or a c-section and typically you are not able to be on your feet for long periods which is unreasonable with a new baby. Some women become so nervous that they psych themselves out and the whole process becomes unpleasant and the baby is born into an unhappy environment.
In this modern age there are many treatments out there for mothers who want a pain free natural childbirth. An epidural can sometimes leave the mother out of it or sometimes the mother can be allergic to the medication and not know until the epidural has been administered. Natural childbirth can cause tension and anxiety which can create high blood pressure causing danger to both mom and baby.
A lot of women are experimenting with a new form of childbirth pain management called hypnoanesthesia. Hypnosis allows you many things such as relaxing through the pain and contractions which will keep your blood pressure low and anxiety under control. You are able to choose to feel labor pains as part of the birthing experience or simply choose to relax them away. You can avoid using medications and be alert and ready to hear your baby’s cry for the first time. Hypnosis is thought to decrease labor by at least three hours making it seem just a little more manageable.
Another appealing thing about hypnosis is the technique can be transferred to a nurse, husband or other partner and they will be able to help the mother maintain the state of relaxation through different cues and suggestions which will help her throughout her labor.
There are ways out there to clam yourself through childbirth but they do not always have to involve drugs and you do not always just have to deal with the pain. Child birth is a happy, exciting and beautiful experience for all new mothers. As a new mother it is your choice how you want to delivery your baby, but before you make a decision for your baby, you need to decide what will put both of you at ease, research all your options before making this important decision.

Homeschooling your children means taking responsibility for their education, but with this responsibility comes many benefits. One of the greatest benefits that you get to set your child’s curriculum according to your family’s values and your child’s interests. Projects are important part of any homeschooling curriculum. Once you’ve set your curriculum outlined goals for each unit, include projects at the end of each unit to provide your child with an effective way to review and implement all they have learned.
Projects are not only an important part of any homeschooling curriculum, but they can also be lots of fun. Most people have fond memories of some of the projects they did during their school years. Homeschooling parents are always on the look out for wayt to implement and test the knowledge they have taught their children and projects are a great way to get this done. A good plan is to have a multi-week unit set up for a given subject, and at the end of the unit assign a week-long project that will put to use and implement what your child has learned.
Let’s look at one example of how to set and implement a project. If you’ve been working on a biology unit, a good project idea is to create an ecosystem in an aquarium. The goal is to create an environment that can be self-sufficient in the sealed aquarium. While learning about nature’s different cycles, encourage your child to consider the most effective way to create an ecosystem. After your child has hatched a plan and spent some time laying out the details in terms of materials, methods and so on, go to the store to buy the required project materials.
You can assist your child in setting up the ecosystem, but make sure they do most of the work on their own. This is not only essential for their education, but also for their self-esteem. Once your child is done setting up the ecosystem, have them track his progress every day. This will be an opportunity to learn how to create and read graphs and charts.
You can also engage other family members on such projects. The ecosystem, for example, could be placed in a prominent location in your home where other family members will have a chance to observe it and provide your child with feedback on his/her hard work. Parents of children in public schools know how exciting it is when a child comes home with a project they just completed at school. Homeschooling parents enjoy the benefit of having ’school’ at ‘home’ and therefore watching their child’s excitement throughout all stages of a project.
Homeschooling families are not limited by the practicalities necessary in public schools. Project ideas can be as diverse and far reaching as your imagination. For each unit, encourage your child to brainstorm a list of long term project ideas based on what they have learned. Allowing your children to come up with their own project ideas will not only trigger their creativity, it will also make them feel like they have a say in their education. This will make them more enthusiastic and excited about their learning and make for a more successful homeschooling experience.

Natural birth is the most beneficial for both the baby and the mother. There are many mothers are suffering from serious labor pain therefore with this article, pain during labor can be decreased with a few useful tips brought up below.
Natural Pain Relief During Labor #1
Continue to stay home for as long as conceivable. It is a place where you are comfier and where you can loosen up. You will be able to also eat and drink as you want. Go to the hospital or birth center only if your contractions are two to three minutes apart and lasting at the least sixty seconds for the first baby. For the case of the second or third or subsequent pregnancy, the contractions must be around four minutes apart and should last for at the least sixty seconds.
Natural Pain Relief During Labor #2
You might want to move around. You are able to stand up and walk, if you are able to. Also, sway. A different alternative is to bounce on a birth ball. A few women would like to tilt back and forth on all fours. If you have to stay in bed, labor on the side or in a supported squat. Keep off getting stuck on your back; for back labor is more tiresome and more dreadful, also it decreases blood flow to your baby.
Natural Pain Relief During Labor #3
It is advisable to let out low moans by your mouth which assists you to be in control the pain. If you make you feel better to express pain by screaming, you had better just go ahead and make as much noise as you want. However, as a reminder also that screaming can actually increase pain and tightens up your body.
Natural Pain Relief During Labor #4
You must attempt to keep yourself warm. A cloth bag filled up with wheat husks, which available at antenatal clinics, should be heated up for a couple of minutes in the microwave, can be laid on the mother’s back to furnish warmth and help easing contractions. It will stay warm for over an hour.
A hot water bag similarly, has to be filled with hot, but not boiling water, clothed in a towel, can also be used for the same purpose.
Natural Pain Relief During Labor #5
There is no doubt that a massage can also assist in giving warmth as well. By massaging on the back, it warms the skin and gets the body to let go of natural pain killing substances.
Once the baby’s head appears, a soft, warm flannel possibly be placed over the perineum, the tissue between the back of the vagina and the rear passage, which will help in bringing down the stretching sensation.
Pick out your birth company with wisdom. This individual could be your partner, your mother, sister or even your best friend. In fact, you can have two birth partners of you wish. The choice is entirely yours. The person should be calm, should be able to lend his or her support and make you feel confident about yourself and who will believe in you and are capable to talk to the health professionals on your behalf. This is because research has proven that if a woman has special person stand by her side during labor, she delivers to a greater extent quickler and easier than she would if she were alone or lack of constant loving support during labor. In a sense it is natural Pain relief during labor.

What parent doesn’t dread the whole back to school time of year? This annual gauntlet seems to be pure torture for all involved, from the parents vying for the best spot in the checkout line to the tired, whiny kids being dragged from store to store in search of the perfect notebook. That’s why more and more parents are opting to do their back to school shopping online these days!
The Real Cost of Back to School
There are several areas that you spend money on while doing the back to school shopping. A huge part of it is the actual supplies, but you may not realize all the hidden costs that really add up.
- Eating out. Most back to school shopping days take more than a few hours and you end up eating at a fast food joint, which can get expensive if you are buying kid?s meals for everyone. – Gas. With gas prices so high these days, it?s definitely a consideration and you waste more gas sitting in traffic and driving around parking lots than you do on the freeway. – Treats. Let?s face it, no one expects their kids to be perfect for hours of trudging through stores collecting all the school supplies, so little things like chocolate bars and toy cars tend to become part of the trip. – Extras. Maybe there?s a super sale on socks that you realize you could get . . . even though they aren’t on your list. Or maybe your toddler just screamed too loud and you ended up buying that Tonka dump truck . . . most shopping trips end with extra items in the cart. – Broken items. This doesn’t always happen, but when you have frustrated mothers and hyper kids . . . things happen. Especially in crowded stores. So you may end up paying for an item that your child accidentally knocked off a shelf and broke, adding to the cost of the day.
Add to this the amount of energy you waste running from store to store, chasing kids and trying to maintain some semblance of calm when the clerk ignores you for the millionth time and you have a true nightmare.
Shopping Online for School Supplies
All this tension, time and money can be eliminated with one simple tool . . . your computer. By shopping online for your school supplies, you?ll be able to buy when you have some free time, even after the kids are in bed! This eliminates the whining and fussing of hot, tired kids. You?ll also save quite a bit of money by doing your back to school shopping online, especially if you take a few minutes to join a rewards program or to look for coupon codes to bring the prices down a bit.
There’s no commute time or even any need to get dressed, if you don’t want to. The savings in time and money are huge when you opt to do your shopping online. And chances are you?ll find even better prices on retail websites than you would in the actual physical store! Once you’ve ordered your products and back to school supplies, you just need to sit back and relax, they?ll be delivered right to you and before school starts! It’s really the best way to do your back to school shopping, since it requires minimal effort and you get even better results. Not to mention, there?s no need to take the kids to the crowded mall and waste gas looking for a place to park!

ADHD or ADD is a neurobehavioral disorder that affects your child’s day-to-day performance and activities. It causes the brain to process information and external stimulus in a different way to other people.
Children with ADHD have minds that churn with a kaleidoscope of thoughts, images and sounds, which distract them and make it impossible to focus.
Common symptoms seen in ADHD are; Inattention, Distractibility, Hyperactivity, and Impulsivity.
What Does This Mean For Your Child?
Children who have been diagnosed with ADHD can grow up to be highly successful adults if given the right encouragement, positive reinforcement and behavioral training. Your child needs to learn strategic coping mechanisms and have an understanding about how their brain functions so that they can excel in school, in the workplace and in personal relationships.
If your child has been diagnosed with ADHD the first thing you need to do is to forget about standard parenting advice. ADHD children have unique needs and require creative parenting techniques in order to thrive.
Given the extreme distractibility of ADHD there are many seemingly simple tasks that will be very difficult for your child to accomplish.
- Time management is non-existent for ADD children and mornings are particularly difficult. Give your child only a couple of tasks to do such as: brush teeth, get dressed and eat breakfast. Always give them 5-10 minute warnings when you are getting ready to go. Reward your child whenever they are on time.
- Organization causes a lot of distress for most children with ADHD. This is because they try to be good and have everything in order but to start and finish a task is overwhelming for them. What also complicates matters is a terrible short-term memory. Misplacing and forgetting important documents or books is commonplace for ADHD sufferers. Get your child in the habit of packing their school bag the night before class and double-checking the contents.
- Paying attention is another major issue for your child. Many ADD children are so lost in their own minds that they do not notice when someone is speaking to them. They may even look directly at you but not hear one word. To ensure you have your child?s undivided attention stand directly in front of your child, make eye contact and have them repeat what you have said. Keep your directions clear and concise.
- Acting on impulse is of major concern for parents with an ADD child. This is one of the most difficult behavioral issues and the one that causes the most problems. Consistency and positive reinforcement for good choices is paramount for your child?s well being.
- Hyperactivity will cause your child to run when they should walk and fidget when they are supposed to be still. ADHD children cannot be still. Allow them the freedom to move and organize high-energy games to channel their restlessness in a constructive manner.
- Compliance to rules and schedules is another difficult thing for your child. This is not because they want to rebel or act out, it is because they live in the moment and have no concept of consequences. You need to give immediate feedback on behavior if you wish for it to change. Giving rewards for compliance will also help to reinforce good behavior and boost your child?s self esteem.
Children with ADHD require more positive reinforcements and reward based behavioral training than others. Depression and low self-esteem can manifest if your child is left to cope with the symptoms of ADD on their own.

Do you like to travel with your child – but you are concerned with their comfort and safety when it comes to bed time when you are away from home? Maybe it is a simple overnight trip to the grandparent’s home. They have the old second-hand crib – but how safe is it? Or how about at a hotel – how safe and reliable is the crib that they quickly setup for your son or daughter? Maybe now is the time to consider a toddler travel bed for your child.
Safety and comfort is number 1 at all times when it comes to your child – and even more so when travelling with you son or daughter. Have you ever had that one night when your child cries all night – and you just know it is a result of them sleeping in an uncomfortable bed? How about getting to a hotel room and you see the crib they have set up for your son or daughter – and there is absolutely no way that you will be placing them in there to sleep – not clean – not safe – and so on. You may be ready for a toddler travel bed. There are many good quality beds to choose from – but how do you decide on the one that is the best option for your family. Read our 7 tips to help clarify your decision.
1. The lighter the better. All things considered – the lighter the bed the better. The bed you choose should be under 6 pounds (in metric that’s under 3 kg.). Travelling with a baby means that you have other gear as well – diaper bag, stroller, etc. Everything you buy – including your toddler travel bed should be ultra lightweight.
2. Easy to carry and load into your car. The bed you select should have its own travel case and when packed away it should be no larger than 24×8x8(in.) or 60×20x20(cm.). No matter where your travels with your child take you – on a plane on a cruise ship or to grandpa’s house you have to carry all the gear and it all has to fit into tight spaces – like your car trunk or as checked baggage on a plane. A small, compact bed will help with this.
3. No hassle set up and put away process. Speed and simplicity are the keys when setting up or putting away your toddler travel bed. You arrive at your destination – your child is tired – you don’t want to struggle to get the bed set up. You want a bed that one person can handle on their own for set up and for putting it away in its travel pack. The bed you get for your child should be easily set up in less than one minute or so, and it should be put away in a similar amount of time.
4. Simple and quick access to your toddler. If your child needs you in the middle of the night you want to be able to easily reach into the bed to pick them up or to pat their back. The bed you decide on should have a way for you to quickly get to your child – usually with a side panel that can be lowered by a quick zip of a zipper.
5. Bed with good air flow. If you choose a bed that has mesh side panels you can be assured that there will be air ventilation keeping your child cool and comfortable as they sleep.
6. Light and comfortable mattress. The mattress in a toddler travel bed can sometimes be heavier than the bed frame itself. Look for a travel bed that comes with a foam mattress – it will be both comfortable for your child and lightweight to carry.
7. Buy with confidence. Check to make sure that the retailer that you purchase from has a no problem return policy – you want to make sure that the bed can be returned (with no problems from the retailer) if it just isn’t right for your family. And if the bed that you purchase is a high quality one, the manufacturer should provide a life time guarantee which will protect you years from now in case there is a problem.
There are lots of essential pieces of baby gear that make life better and easier for families. We consider a toddler travel bed to be essential to our family – and maybe you feel the same way for your family. When the time is right for you to look for a bed for your toddler child use these tips to help to make the right decision for you.

Birthday games for kids are sometimes hard to come up with if you don’t have the best imagination. Perhaps, you are having a hard time especially finding birthday games for your son and his friends. You know that boys are raucous and rowdy. That is a start. Generally, boys like birthday games that are active and fun. Here are a few ideas to get you thinking.
Assuming that you’re having the birthday party during the summer, the boys will probably love a water gun fight. You can turn it into the classic Indians and cowboys gunfight by splitting them up into teams. The object of the game? Make the opposing team as wet as possible! When you send out the invitations, be sure to tell everyone to bring an extra set of clothes. By the way, you can find really good deals on water guns if you check out the dollar store, and you’ll be able to buy them in all sorts of sizes and colors.
When you’re thinking of birthday games for kids, they don’t have to be costly. Even a three-legged race will be a hit for boys. Just remember that if you do this game, you need to match the boys up according to size or there could be injuries as a result. Here’s how it works: Divide the boys into two teams. Two boys each will tie themselves to each other (right leg tied to the left leg). Each pair’s goal is to finish the race first. If the boys are older and you want to make it even more challenging, create an obstacle course.
Another fun game is dress-up. You may think only girls would like to do something like this, but that is not the case. You can have boys dress up and recreate a scene from their favorite pirate movie, for example. If you are going along with a pirate theme, a treasure hunt would be very fun.
One last birthday games for kids is the spoon race. All you will need for this game are spoons and something to balance on the spoons, like pieces of fruit, a small ball, or an egg. The object of this game is to have each team pass the spoon with their teeth through the line of your team. The first team to have the spoon reach the other end of the line without hands is the winner. This game may be too difficult for smaller boys though.
Hopefully all these tips for birthday games for kids have given you inspiration. Don’t forget to have fun yourself!

Maybe you believed that baby shower cakes were merely a tasty dessert served to your guests… Well, that is undoubtedly one form of cake. However there’s a different kind of baby shower cake that is filled with all sorts of useful gifts for the mom-to-be. One very popular choice in this area is a gift that really does resemble a tiered wedding cake. However instead of being made of flour, sugar and eggs, it’s created from the one thing a new mom can never have too many of – diapers.
These ingenious and attractive baby shower cakes make the perfect gift for the event. Everyone thinks of giving diapers to the mother-to-be and she will certainly use them. However giving them in this form turns a needed but ordinary gift into an opportunity for laughter for the guests and the guest of honor.
Piled high and covered with other pretty items that really do make it look like the genuine article, diaper cakes are not only practical but also fun and the recipient can peel them off one at a time as needed. Exactly like eating a wedding cake that will last for days or weeks, this gift offers its own storage bin.
The same idea has been used successfully for many other baby shower gifts. The false wedding cake can be filled with any type of toys for the baby, gifts for the mother-to-be and lots more.
After all, it is not only diapers which the happy couple will shortly. Baby powder, baby oil, lotion, ointment and many related hygiene products are all commonly needed items in the nursery. At about 32 inches high, you’ll discover that these cakes can hold many of these necessities. Booties, a baby cap, terry cloth towels and several other items of clothing are all part of the package too.
Even the somewhat smaller two-tiered baby shower cakes offer dozens of valuable gifts and provides a great decoration as a centerpiece for the baby shower table. Just peel off the outer layers and enjoy the teething ring, rattle, pacifier and more that will assuredly get used. Open it up and find a brush and comb, a manicure set, socks and many other presents which are equally useful.
A number of baby shower cakes may contain only decorative items, but these too will be much appreciated by the mom-to-be. Ceramic baby blocks, silk roses and much more set on a silver platter make this a gift that will not be put away the closet once the party is over. You will discover the blocks lining the shelf in the baby’s room and the silk roses on display on the mantle, while the silver platter is used to liven up the table on future special occasions.
Check out the full line of baby shower cakes on offer nowadays and amaze yourself with the number of highly creative options.
And, don’t forget of course to order the real thing for the baby shower while you’re at it.

If you are a mom or dad with a young child and you are an avid jogger, inline skater or power walker (or want to be) and you want to be outdoors and stay fit with your baby you can still do it. More and more families are considering a baby jogging stroller. Times have changed – baby strollers used to be for gentle walks in the park. Not anymore – baby jogging strollers are here to stay – helping moms and dads stay fit and get fit. There are lots of strollers to choose from – so it is not easy to decide. Here are 10 things that will help you to decide which one is best for you.
1. Choose an aluminum framed stroller. Your choices will be strollers made with either metal tube frames or aluminum frames. You want your stroller to weigh less than 25 pounds. Metal tube frame strollers are much heavier than those made with an aluminum frame. Choosing an aluminum frame provides you with a lighter, easier to push stroller, and they are also longer lasting, stronger and more resistant to rust and corrosion.
2. Stroller wheels. The stroller you choose should have air-filled 16 inch wheels since they provide easy pushing for mom or dad, and they provide your baby with a comfortably smooth ride. Traditional jogging strollers have two back wheels and one front wheel. The goal with a jogging stroller is to reduce rolling resistance, and any wheels that are less than 16 inches in diameter just don`t do the trick.
3. Baby should be as comfortable as possible. The more comfortable baby is during the run the more enjoyable the time will be for everyone. The fabric in the stroller seat should allow for good air flow to help keep baby cool, and it should be made from a light material that will help reduce the baby getting too warm especially on hot days. You also want the seat to lay back (at least 25%) so that the baby can be comfortable if they decide to nap during the run.
4. Protect your baby from the sun. Any jogging stroller that you consider will have a sun canopy. You want to make sure that the sun canopy is fully flexible so that it can be positioned to block out the sun`s rays so that no matter which way your baby is facing they are protected. You should not have to clip a blanket to the stroller for protection. The last thing you want is direct sun into your son or daughter`s face causing potential harm to them, and making the baby uncomfortable which will eventually lead to crying and fussing.
5. Child safety. Safety is number 1 whenever it comes to your baby. Make sure that the stroller you choose keeps your baby safely strapped into their seat. Look for a stroller with a five-point harness. The stroller should have both a hand brake, and a parking brake (engaged by flipping a bar with your feet).
6. Fits in trunk of car. The process for folding should be simple. Many strollers have a trigger on each side of the handlebar that allow the stroller to easily fold into itself. Most car trunks can hold a folded stroller if it is smaller than 25 x 45 x 18 (inches). In order to fold it into a smaller dimension find a stroller that has one-touch pop-off wheels that are easy to remove for storage.
7. If people of different heights will be jogging with the stroller make sure that the handlebar height is adjustable. If you or your partner both plan on using the stroller and if one of you is noticably taller than the other you want to be sure that the stroller handlebars adjust in height so that you will both be comfortable when using the stroller. Strollers with this feature will have a button in the handlebar making this adjustment easy – even on the fly.
8. Make sure that it works for your baby as they grow. Babies come in all sizes and shapes – isn`t that great. Your stroller is an investment – and you want to get as much use from it as possible. A child that measures under 25 in. when seated should be able to sit in the stroller, and a child eighty pounds or less should be safely be able to use the stroller. Look for a stroller that provides good height and weight capacity.
9. Buy with confidence. If you bring the stroller home and try it out and it just isn`t what you expected it to be, make sure that the retailer will provide a full refund without any arguing. And if there are problems down the road make sure that there is a good long term warranty from the manufacturer. A solid manufacturer`s warranty is 5 years on the frame and 1 year on all other parts of the stroller.
10. They cost as little as $280 and can be over $1,000. Don`t overpay, and don`t pay for the branding of the stroller. List the features and benefits that are most important to you. Keep in mind that the purchase will provide many years of benefits to you and your family. Then look for the least expensive stroller that meets those features and benefits. In all likelihood you can purchase one for $280 or slightly higher.
Use this list of ten things to do to list which stroller features are most important to your family. Then use your list to help you to purchase the stroller that best meets your needs.
